Here are a few more pieces that I have recently completed. I hope you enjoy them! The two top peices are Italian Greyhounds. Tovi and Gus-Gus. The bottom two are Ace the retired racing Grehound and Skully the Doxie. These are all colored pencil pieces (of course).
I have completed Dante. I used new materials for this piece--Faber Castell Polychromos instead of Prismacolors. Polys are supposed to be "wax-bloom" free. We'll see. I like them so far--although they are pretty pricey. Supposed to be the best Colored Pencil in the world.
I am nearly finished. I think I totally screwed up the background though. I need to finish it by Wednesday--that is when my student teacher is finishing up.

I have begun yet ANOTHER Italian Greyhound colored pencil piece. This piece is 18 x 24inches and as you can clearly see, it is a pic of two of my IGlets snuggling. Vito is the split face and Enzo is the deaf guy on his right. Lots of work yet to be done! I shall keep you loyal readers updated!!! All two of you! Muahahaha!!!
Well, here she is. Friday night and I am exhausted!
Realizing this newfound digital media has been daunting. I was telling my good friend Jim the other day that it was strange that I am such a loud-mouthed ass, yet when it comes to blogging, I am a meek little mouse. I can't figure out WHAT to blog about.
So I finally had a thought. I am an artist. Not a great artist, but by no means an unskilled artist. I am currently going through a period of change and to be honest, I am feeling very frustrated. I reckon I should give a bit of history...
I have been drawing since the age of four. Well. By middle school I was drawing VERY WELL. When I got to college, the school I attended didn't offer a drawing degree, so I was forced into a painting curriculum. I have never felt comfortable as a painter. EVER. This was back in '89--the last century. So even though I trudged through painting and made a great many horrible peices of artwork that by modern art standards would deem "good", I still hated them.
Fast-forward to 2005.
Last year I "discovered" colored pencil. Yes, at age 33 I discovered a medium that I enjoyed. Yes--I am an art teacher, so shut yo' mouth. I know--it sounds ridiculous. So for the past year I have been working in this lovely medium--not badly, but not too great either. It seems that I cannot progress past a certain point in my artwork. This morning I joined an artist forum and spent hours looking at colored pencil work. Needless to say, I began to feel sick. Seriously ill, folks. The work is at a calibur that I don't think I have the patience to attain. I was going to post a few pieces for critique, but totally chickened out. My work is not of the quality of the artists on this specific forum.
So now I am frustrated. Completely and utterly depressed by the quality of the work I viewed. I am at a point where I need to continue with the medium--expanding and learning, yet when I look at other work, I feel about an inch tall.
Here is a piece that I have just completed for a lovely woman in Texas. It's nice. But it is not of the calibur that I want it to be.
So I think I have decided that this blog will mostly be about my "growing" as a professional artist. I think this is a good place to vent my frustrations and to critique my own work. If anyone else would like to join in on the critique--please feel free.
